Comey was fired two weeks ago by President Donald Trump. The move has caused controversy since the FBI is investigating Russia's influence on the 2016 election.

According to CNN, Comey decided to go public and declare the investigation into Clinton's handling of classified email over because of fake email exchanges cooked up by the Russians between then-Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and a Clinton campaign operative that said Attorney General Loretta Lynch would make the investigation go away.

Comey held the press conference without consulting Lynch. At the press conference, Comey blasted Clinton's handling of the emails, despite not bringing any charges.

The CNN report claims Comey never told lawmakers there were doubts about the intelligence.

Comey lived in Yonkers until he was a teenager before his family moved to New Jersey, where he graduated high school. He is the grandson of longtime Yonkers police officer - and former Police Commissioner William Comey and served as a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York before being chosen by then President Barack Obama to head the FBI in 2013 on a 10-year appointment.
