The Quinnipiac poll Cuomo has Cuomo leading possible challenger Astorino, a Republican, 56-25 percent among all potential voters. Astorino leads 62 - 23 percent among Republicans. Cuomo leads among other party, age, gender, income and regional groups.
Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University's Polling Institute, attributed a lack of statewide name recognition as Astorino's big obstacle, in a press release.
"Cuomo has much for which to be thankful," said Carroll in the release. "The only thing better than lots of opponents is an unknown opponent. The Democratic governor scores a demographic sweep, except among Republicans."
The Marist poll gives Cuomo an even wider margin over Astorino, 65 percent to 23 percent, with 12 percent undecided.
The Quinnipiac poll also showed Cuomo’s job approval rating at 62 percent. The Marist survey was significantly lower at 52 percent, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.
