Carlucci, whose district includes Ossining and Briarcliff Manor, has sponsored legislation which helped advance health, independence, and employment opportunities for the disabled. He is chairman of the state Senate’s Committee on Social Services and has also led the state Senate’s Committee on Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.
The ADA, which was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990, gives civil rights protections to disabled individuals similar to those based on race, gender, age and religion. It also assures equal access to businesses; employment; transportation; state and local government programs and services; and telecommunications.
“It is an honor to be invited to the White House to celebrate this important anniversary,” said Carlucci. “The Americans with Disabilities Act revolutionized the law and care for people with disabilities, and it is truly amazing how far we have come. That being said, there is still imperative work that needs to be done to improve the lives of people with disabilities.”
