OSSINING, N.Y. The Town of Ossining Police Department building is officially for sale.
Town of Ossining officials are actively seeking a buyer for the police station at 507 N. State Road and this week placed a For Sale sign in front of the vacant building. Town of Ossining officials said they are attempting to sell the building for about $3.5 million in order to make up for a $3 million bond currently on the building. Westchester County Police previously had several officers stationed at the building, but town Supervisor Susanne Donnelly said the town received notice recently that county police did not intend to purchase the building.
One of the things that was happening was we were paying some of the services of the building, Donnelly said Tuesday night during a Town of Ossining Unincorporated Areas meeting. When we first started, we approached the county as to whether or not they were comfortable with buying the police station. Now weve been told more or less that theyre not interested in buying the building.
Recently, rumors circulated that the Town of Ossining is in the process of trying to sell the building to the Village of Briarcliff Manor, however, Donnelly said that is not the case.
It would be a perfect police station, Briarcliff, Donnelly said during the meeting. There have been some rumors going around that we are in negotiations with Briarcliff. Were not. We would be happy to be.
Briarcliff Manor Village Manager Philip Zegarelli said previously that he had a conversation with Donnelly about the possibility of Briarcliff Manor purchasing the police station. But Zegarelli said in April that it was too soon to say where future discussions might lead.
Wayne Spector, attorney for the Town of Ossining, confirmed Tuesday that the town has received two inquiries from possible buyers on the building, but said it could be some time before the town is able to find a buyer or lessee.
The commercial real estate market right now is as such that its totally unpredictable as to how quickly youre going to sell real estate, Spector said, adding that the town is open to selling or leasing the building. If you get an end-user youre going to find out that their parameters are going to be different than an investor. They will pay for it based on what they see is the value of an owner-occupied building.
