OSSINING, N.Y. – Lifelong Ossining resident Liz Miller Feldman has announced her plans to run for one of two open town council seats.
Feldman has owned a home in the village for 20 years. She was raised on Hawkes Avenue in the “town outside,” according to a press release. She also has two sons who were raised in the Ossining school system.
"I understand the identity and challenges of each of the three components of the town of Ossining - the town outside, the village of Ossining, and the village of Briarcliff Manor. I feel that this will allow me to bring a unique perspective to the position,” Feldman said in a press release. "I believe it's vital to make sure that new construction enhances our identity as a town, satisfies priorities as a community, and that we retain adequate green spaces to balance development."
Feldman has a long community service record, including Teatown Lake Preservation, Toys for Tots, and the United Martial Arts Centers. She has served as a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating safety instructor, a Cub Scout den mother and an American Youth Soccer Association coach.
"As a budget-conscious single mother, I will work to find creative solutions to keep taxes down while maintaining services.” Feldman said. “I am strongly in favor of utilizing green technologies, not only to protect our environment, but to lower energy costs within our municipalities.”
Feldman and her family have been part of the Ossining Fire Department Independent Hose Co. No. 6 for years, and members of the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club for generations. She currently serves as a commodore at the boat and canoe club.
“I look forward to an open dialogue with all of Ossining’s residents and merchants, a collaboration to ensure a more prosperous and culturally rich diverse community,” she said. “After many years of what has been a town board with a fixed dynamic, I believe that the time is now to re-energize and re-focus with a new perspective and fresh ideas."
