Latimer, a Democrat who serves in the state senate, will be on the Reform Party line, which was created by his opponent, incumbent Republican Rob Astorino following Tuesday's primary. Astorino, who is running for a third term, launched a write-in campaign after the party snubbed him and endorsed Latimer in August.

Latimer received 1,507 votes while 1,167 write-in votes were cast, according to unofficial numbers from the Westchester County Board of Elections.

“George Latimer won the Reform line because he's working to take our county back from a politician who stands with Donald Trump and risks our children's future for his own political gain," Andrea Grenadier, a spokeswoman for Latimer said.

Astorino founded the party in 2014 as the Stop Common Core Party when he unsuccessfully ran for governor, later changing its name. Curtis Sliwa, who founded The Guardian Angels, took control of the party in 2016 in a move that has been challenged in court.

Sliwa said Astorino had drifted away from the Reform Party Platform and the party will no longer be a rubber stamp for the Republican Party.

"Write-in campaigns are extraordinarily difficult, but we greatly appreciate those who organized the effort," William O'Reilly, a spokesman for Astorino said. "What will really matter on Election Day is the county executive's demonstrated bi-partisan leadership and his record of cutting and keeping flat the county property tax levy for seven, going on eight, straight years."

In November, Latimer will also be on the Working Families, Women's Equality and Independence Party lines, while Astorino will also be on on the Conservative line.
