OSSINING, N.Y. -- Victoria Gearity is hoping to move from trustee to mayor of the Village of Ossining.
Gearity is running in the Democratic primary on Euesday, Sept. 9, against incumbent Bill Hanauer.
Gearity said she can be described as someone with integrity, openness and respect and said she is defined in her role as a parent, wife, public servant, community organizer and friend.
Smart environmental practices and economic justice are two of the issues Gearity is passionate about. Gearity said the campaign has had many obstacles.
"We have been counteracting the — at best, misleading and disingenuous, and, at worst, untrue and vicious —attacks on my character and my motivation for seeking to serve the people of Ossining as mayor," Gearity said.
Serving on the village board, Gearity said she has witnessed many issues that are not being addressed by Hanauer.
"At this pivotal point in Ossining's history, it is vital that we have a change in leadership, and elect a mayor with the courage to address tough challenges, and the openness to respect differing opinions," Gearity said.
Gearity has touted her endorsements form the Ossining Democratic Committee and the Westchester Independence Committee, along with Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and County Legislator Catherine Borgia.
