Chappaqua's Hillary Clinton Compares Trump To Nixon In Commencement Speech

In her most scathing attack since she lost the 2016 presidential race, Chappaqua's Hillary Clinton compared Donald Trump to Richard Nixon, who became the only U.S. president to resign from office.

The former first lady, secretary of state and U.S. senator from New York made the comparison in a commencement address Friday delivered at her alma mater, Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass.

Clinton drew a comparison to today and 1969, the year she graduated from Wellesley and the first year of Nixon's presidency, which ended in the midst of the Watergate scandal in 1974.

She said her Wellesley class went on to see Nixon's presidency "eventually end in disgrace" after "firing the person running the investigation into him at the Department of Justice" in a not-so-veiled reference to Trump's decision earlier this month to fire FBI Director and Yonkers native James Comey.

Clinton told the students that they are graduating at a time of a “full-fledged assault on truth and reason.”

“When people in power invent their own facts and attack those who question them, it can mark the beginning of the end of a free society,” she said. “That is not hyperbole. It is what authoritarian regimes throughout history have done. They attempt to control reality.”

Though she never mentioned Trump by name, Clinton made a clear reference to Trump's claim that the crowd at his Jan. 20 inauguration was "the largest ever."

“Some are even denying things we see with our own eyes, like the size of crowds,” Clinton said.

Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
