Warning for Undocumented Immigrants to Avoid Being Scammed : New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is warning undocumented immigrants to take precautions in the wake of President Obama’s recent executive action and avoid falling victim to unscrupulous individuals making promises they cannot keep. If you or someone you know think you’ve been the victim of an immigration services scam, contact the Immigration Fraud Hotline at 1-866-390-2992. The call is confidential. Hiring Snow Removal Contractors: Schneiderman issued a consumer alert offering tips for New Yorkers to avoid falling victim to dishonest snow removal contractors as winter approaches. To view the tips, click here . The Attorney General's Consumer Helpline at 1-800-771-7755. Unused Gift Cards: New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to read the fine print on gift cards this holiday season for details about fees and expiration dates. In State Fiscal Year 2013-2014, $5.8 million from gift unused cards was turned over to the state.
