A Dutchess County woman was arrested by New York State Police in Westchester after being busted for allegedly driving while using drugs and passing out at the wheel at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown.
State police troopers from the Hawthorne barracks arrested 26-year-old Poughkeepsie resident Alexa Stefanchik on a felony charge of driving while ability impaired by drugs on Wednesday after she was found passed out at the wheel at the park.
According to police, troopers were dispatched to the FDR State Park entrance, where there were reports of a motorist who had passed out in the driver’s seat. Upon arrival, paramedics were on scene with Stefanchik, who refused further medical attention.
Police said that while interviewing Stefanchik, troopers “observed signs that indicated she was impaired.” Stefanchik was subsequently placed in custody and after being evaluated by a State Police Drug Recognition Expert, it was determined that she was not able to safely operate a motor vehicle due to drug impairment.
Stefanchik was issued tickets for felony DWAI due to a previous DWI conviction dating back to July 2011. She is due back in Yorktown Court next month.
