Woman Charged With Entering Sing Sing With Methadone

OSSINING, N.Y. -- A 46-year-old Long Island woman faces charges after she entered a prison in Ossining while carrying methadone, state police said.

Laverne R. Lane, a Long Island resident, was arrested at Sing Sing in Ossining Thursday, Jan. 14, and charged with promoting prison contraband and possession of an illegal substance.

Laverne R. Lane, of Brentwood, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 14, at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, police said.

She was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, police said.

Lane, who was at the prison to visit an inmate, was taken into custody by troopers with the assistance of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations, police said.

Lane was issued a ticket, released, and is to appear in the Town of Ossining Justice Court on Tuesday, Jan. 26, police said.
