Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Thursday that Karmel Mills of Yonkers has been sentenced to a term of between 17 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to strangling his neighbor, David Pinnock, to death.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 19 last year, Yonkers Police officers responded to the apartment complex at 52 Ravine Ave., where they found the door to Pinnock’s apartment broken off the hinges with Mills on top of him, choking him.

Scarpino said that Mills and Pinnock were neighbors, and had an ongoing dispute. The nature of the dispute was not released.

According to McCarty, the police ordered Mills off Pinnock and he complied. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment on a cut on his head. Police and arriving EMTs were able to briefly resuscitate the Pinnock - who had no pulse - and he was transported to Westchester Medical Center, placed into a medical coma and attached to a ventilator.

Pinnock suffered from blunt force trauma, kidney and lung failure and brain damage from the attack. He was removed from the ventilator and pronounced dead on Feb. 6. In May, Mills pleaded guilty to individual counts of murder, burglary and strangulation.
