Police said that the incident was reported at 1:55 a.m. on May 9. The female former partner living in the house, located on Ann Road, reported that Miraglia was trying to break into home and kill her, police said.
Carmel Police added that a man who is a tenant in a basement residence of the house reported to 911 that he saw a man with a gun getting entry to the residence.
Police added that officers who responded to a call from the victim found her bleeding due to a gunshot wound to her leg, adding that Miraglia was found near by in the house with several gunshot wounds to his torso.
Miraglia, also a Mahopac resident, was pronounced dead at the site by Putnam County Coroner Daniel Stephens, police said, adding that an autopsy was performed at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
The woman's name is being withheld because of the incident's domestic violence nature, police said.
Police added that the victim was taken to Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn., where she was treated and subsequently released.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department, New York State Police and the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department's ambulance division provided assistance, police added.
A press release from the police department does not identify who shot Miraglia or whether his gun was used. However, The Journal News reports that the victim used Miraglia's firearm, citing a quote from Carmel Police Chief Michael Cazzari.
It is not clear how the victim was able to get Miraglia's gun, the the paper adds.
Cazzari was not in his office when Daily Voice reached out on Monday.
