OSSINING, N.Y. - The Ossining Police Department is on the hunt for a suspect that may have painted the latest anti-Semitic graffiti in Westchester.

Police received a call from a woman walking her dog at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday reporting that there was a swastika painted on the roadway in front of a Dale Avenue home.

Upon arrival, officers said that they found an open can of house paint and a piece of cardboard, which they believe was used as a makeshift paintbrush. Police said that next to the curb, between two cars, there was an 18-inch swastika painted, which was promptly removed by a Department of Public Works crew.

Last week, police in Mount Kisco launched an investigation into a swastika painted on a Westchester synagogue. Last month, a White Plains man was accused of sending an anti-Semitic email to Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

Investigators noted that the graffiti does not appear to have been a pre-planned decision, and no particular resident appears to have been attacked. Police said that it is a “good indication that it was a crime of opportunity.”

“The Ossining Police Department is committed to protecting all of our residents and maintaining a safe and vibrant community, We will not tolerate hate crimes or actions aimed at placing our residents in fear. Our detectives have recovered physical evidence from the scene and are continuing to seek witnesses who may have seen someone in the area.“

Anyone with information regarding the crime have been asked to contact investigators at the Ossining Police Department by calling (914) 941-4099.
