Ossining Police Investigate Home Burglaries

OSSINING, N.Y. – Ossining residents are reporting nearly one home burglary every other day this June.

The Village of Ossining Police Department is investigating seven daytime residential burglaries this month. Six of the break-ins have occurred on the north side of the village near North Malcolm Street and Denny Street, police say. The seven burglaries are the most the village has had through June 15 for the past five years. There were a total of eight home burglaries reported in all of June 2011, according to records kept by the Ossining Police Department.

Ossining Police Spokesman Lt. Michael McElroy said the numbers don’t necessarily indicate a trend and are most likely being caused by a local individual or small group.

“We’re looking at some leads, but right now we have no suspects,” McElroy said. “We don’t think they’re out of the area.”

McElroy added several of the burglaries occurred during the daytime hours and that entries were made through windows. In one case, a loose air conditioner was removed to gain entry, he said. Property taken included computer equipment, jewelry and assorted items.

“We’re letting people know that they should make sure their doors are secured with deadbolts and make sure their windows are secured and locked before leaving the house,” McElroy said. “In most of the cases, the windows weren’t properly secured or they were unlocked.”

Village Police arrested a man last week in connection to a burglary in an Ossining business.
