The focus on social media was the subject of a lohud.com report.

Newly appointed Chief Kevin Sylvester, 35, who was sworn in on New Year's Day, predicts that other police departments and public agencies will start embracing social media, as well. Younger officers may be more comfortable on the web, and consider it as just another beat to walk, Lohud.com says.

Not only is the department using its Facebook page regularly to provide updates and reminders to residents, police are now allowing simple records requests over email, Lohud.com reported.
