Ossining Police Arrest Man After Burglary

OSSINING, N.Y. – A 28-year-old Croton-On-Hudson man was arrested by the Ossining Police Department on Sunday in connection with a recent burglary at a pizzeria.

Philip Manwaring was arrested after Ossining Police say they found evidence that connected Manwaring to a June 5 burglary at E&M Pizzeria at 31 Spring St. Police said the owner of E&M reported that around 9:21 p.m. on June 5, roughly $350 in cash was stolen after a break-in. Manwaring was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and is being held awaiting arraignment in Ossining Town Court.

Michael McElroy, village of Ossining Police spokesman, said he could not release further information on the circumstances that led to Manwaring’s arrest so as not to interfere with court proceedings.

McElroy said Manwaring was not a current or former employee of E&M. McElroy noted that while burglaries to area businesses have been relatively rare this year, there has been a string of residential burglaries in the north side of the village.

“We’re having a number of residential burglaries occur during the daytime,” he said. “We have had a rash of them. I don’t know if that’s a crime trend. I believe it may just be a particular suspect or a group of suspects who have been especially active lately.”

2 Arrested After Fight Village Police said that two Ossining residents were arrested after “an altercation” around 10:30 p.m. June 9 at 9 Broadway Ave. Police say they found “a large crowd with two males fighting at that location,” according to a news release. The report also stated that resident Daquan James “leaped on the hood of an Ossining Police car” and caused damage to the car’s hood. The report stated that Kenneth Peace “attempted to prevent the police officers on scene from taking control of Daquan James.” McElroy said James was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony. Peace was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a violation, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
