HAWTHORNE, N.Y. – An intoxicated Croton man thought he could hide at the Hawthorne Home Depot after his car collided with another vehicle and he left the scene, which led to his arrest, Mount Pleasant police said.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, police arrested Eric Schmidt, 38, of Croton, on charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, both misdemeanors. Police said Schmidt collided with another car on Route 9A in Hawthorne and then fled to the nearby Home Depot. Police found Schmidt in the Home Depot bathroom.

The driver of the car that Schmidt struck suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention.
