OSSINING, N.Y. Police were searching for a suspect Tuesday afternoon after an Ossining resident said a man had broken into her friend's Pine Avenue home.
Police received a call at 10:28 a.m. from a caller saying "her friend had an intruder in her house on Pine Avenue," said Lt. Michael McElroy, Village of Ossining Police Department spokesman. Police responded "within minutes," he said in a statement.
"Upon their arrival, the resident of the home stated that she heard noises in the downstairs apartment earlier, but thought it was the tenants," McElroy said in the statement. "Sometime later, while she was on the phone with her friend, she heard someone walking up the stairs toward her bedroom, when she was suddenly confronted by the presence of a stranger who told her to 'sit down and be quiet.'"
The Village of Ossining Police Department and Westchester County Police were on the scene Tuesday afternoon investigating. Representatives with the police department said they were looking for a white man about 40 years old, 5-foot-6 with blond hair and wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt. The man was reportedly last seen heading down Dale Avenue.
Police have been unable to locate a person fitting the description, McElroy said.
At least eight burglaries were reported in Ossining in June. Village of Ossining Police are investigating those burglaries, which have all occurred on the north side of the village this month.
