Troopers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance that occurred on Ely Road. An investigation revealed that Martin Costello was outside working on his vehicle when the victim returned to the Ely Road residence, state police said.

Costello reportedly entered the garage and grabbed a Panther Arms A-15 semi-automatic rifle before the victim was able to enter the home and contact 911 for police assistance, state police said.

It was discovered that after the victim entered the home, the suspect discharged a round from the firearm from his garage into the backyard towards occupied homes, state police said.

Costello was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and reckless endangerment in the first degree, both Class D Felonies.

He was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Justice Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He was due to return to the Town of Cortlandt Court on Monday.
