Mayor Hanauer Gives His Thoughts On What Makes Ossining So Special

Bill Hanauer is in his fourth term as Mayor of the Village of Ossining, which includes more than 25,000 residents and eight thousand households. The mayor took a few moments to highlight some of the reasons he thinks the Village is such a special place to live and work.

Ossining is a community of great diversity: socio-economic, ethnic, racial, religious, sexual orientation, age, place of origin.

Our residents live together, work  together, support  each other in contemporary living in an historic setting on our magnificent Hudson River.

The farmers market, our agora, where all Ossining meets, is one of  my favorite locations in the Village.

Not only do we have healthy local products available to us year-round, but we have a venue for informal healthy discussion of Village issues. I spend some time there each Saturday and am delighted to shop, to see friends and to have residents and merchants approach me with their concerns.

My other favorite places are Sparta Park, Harbor Square parkland, Crawbuckie Nature Preserve – all green and other natural colors,  all with magnificent river views.

The aspects of this job I enjoy the most are being involved with all segments of our society and bringing to fruition many of the development and economic goals for which I and many others - our hard working, devoted Village administration,  employees  and volunteers -- have striven for the last eight years.

I am known for being approachable at almost every event, easily contactable in person, by email, or by phone. Many have my cell phone and home numbers – none abuses them.
