Letter to the Editor:

I write to endorse Catherine Borgia for Westchester County Legislator for Ossining, Cortlandt, Croton, Briarcliff Manor and Peekskill.

I've known Catherine since our children attended Circle School preschool in Croton. She and I were both working moms and often discussed the conflicts presented to working women in this County. At the same time, Catherine was distinctly aware of how hard-pressed families were in which either parent chose to stay home with their children and, thus, forgo a paycheck.

Given the above concerns and Catherine's strong and impressive educational background (www.catherineborgia.com), Catherine chose to give up a career in the private sector and embarked on a committed and successful career in public service commencing as Chief of Staff to State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and leading to her present position as Ossining Town Supervisor.

As Ossining Town Supervisor, Catherine has repeatedly demonstrated her gift for diplomacy ("Ossining Police Merge Into the Westchester County Police Force" newyork.cbslocal.com viewable at www.catherineborgia.com), demonstrating her ability to overcome party partisanship by working with Westchester County Supervisor Robert Astorino to render Ossining taxpayers significant savings (up to $1 million) by achieving a merger of the Ossining Police force with the Westchester County Police Force while simultaneously maintaining police response times and effectiveness for Town of Ossining residents. Likewise, Catherine obtained permission from Governor Andrew Cuomo to merge the Ossining Town and Village Courts, maintaining all jobs and reducing costs significantly.

Additionally, Catherine restored the "rainy day" fund to a fiscally responsible 20% of Ossining's budget and cut Ossining's operating costs by 18%. Finally, in a nod to a need for ethically responsible government, Catherine established an Ethics Board in the Town of Ossining that has oversight over the conduct of Ossining officials.

Based upon the responsible and effective government practiced by Catherine and her staff, I intend to vote for Catherine and hope that voters seeking responsible, effective and transparent governance show up to the polls to vote for Catherine on November 8th.
