Sister Elizabeth Lee, 89, Of Maryknoll In Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Sister Elizabeth Lee , a Maryknoll sister for 70 years, died on Feb. 4. She was 89.

Lee was born on May 12, 1924 to Lou She Lee and William Lee in San Francisco.

She graduated from Mt. Gollitzin Academy in Baden, Pa. , in 1943. She entered Maryknoll Sisters on Sept. 7, 1943, and was given her Religious name, Sister Marie Clementia, at her reception on March 7, 1946.

From 1945-1949, Sister Elizabeth attended Maryknoll Teachers College where she earned a Bachelor of Education degree. She was then assigned to Boston’s Chinatown where she taught English and catechetical classes until 1952. She also taught in Chicago, Hong Kong, Taiwan and served at a parish in San Francisco. She also worked in New Mexico. She returned to Maryknoll in Ossining in 2004.

Sister Elizabeth is survived by two nephews, Donald Nguyen and Peter Lee and a cousin, Isabel Lee. She was predeceased by her brothers, Andrew and Victor.

A Vesper service will be held for Sister Elizabeth on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 4:15 p.m., at Annunciation Chapel, Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Interment will follow at Maryknoll Sisters Cemetery.
