OSSINING, N.Y. – Dr. Richard B. Primps Jr. of Ossining died Saturday, May 28. He was 67.
The son of Dick and Bette Primps, he was a graduate of Ossining High School, class of 1966. After graduating from Ossining, he received a bachelor's degree from Fairfield University, a master's degree from Columbia University, and a doctorate in child psychology from St. John's University. In the 1970s, he was a psychologist at Flower Hospital in Manhattan and in 1980s and '90s, he was a staff psychologist for the Yonkers Public Schools.
In more recent years, he taught at Rockland Community College. While pursuing graduate studies, he financed his education by serving as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at various local clubs. In the mid-1970s, he served as director of the Torview Club in Ossining. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Theresa's Church in Briarcliff Manor, where he served as an usher.
He is survived by his brothers, William and James; and his sisters, Nancy Bernasek and Sheila Rose.
His father and mother predeceased him in 2010 and 2011.
Calling hours are Wednesday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Ave., Hawthorne. The funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. a St. Theresa Church in Briarcliff Manor. Interment will be private.
