Perina Tassini, 81, Retired Ossining H.S. Nurse

OSSINING, N.Y. – Perina M. Tassini, a longtime Ossining resident and former school nurse, died Dec. 10. She was 81.

Tassini was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Briarcliff to Guiseppi and Incoronata Pizzirusso. A lifelong area resident, she attended Ossining schools from kindergarten through high school, graduating with the class of 1950.

She worked to put herself through school at Westchester School of Nursing at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, where she received her certification as a registered nurse in 1953. She also attended Pace University.

She married Frank Tassini Oct. 20, 1957. He predeceased her March 21, 2007. Tassini worked as an operating room nurse at Grasslands Hospital for five years before taking time off to raise her children.

Upon her return to work, Tassini first substituted as a school nurse in the Ossining school system. In 1969, she was hired as a nurse at Ossining High School, where she worked for 32 years before retiring in 2001.

Tassini was inducted into the OHS Hall of Fame in 2007 and the OHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. She was a member of St. Ann's Parish, where she volunteered for many years. She also served as a vice president of the St. Ann's School PTA and as a Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts leader when her children were young.

She was a past president of the Sisters of the Sick and Poor Auxiliary, an active member of the Ossining Business and Professional Women and an honorary board member of the Ossining Historical Society.

For the past three years, Tassini lived at Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Croton-on-Hudson.

She is survived by a daughter, Marie (Richard) Tassini-Ceccatti, of Croton; a son, Peter (Margare), of Syracuse, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Church in Ossining. Burial will follow at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Ossining.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Church.
