He served as Town Justice from 1980 till his retirement in 2011, winning election seven times.
Born in 1931 in Brooklyn, he graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., in 1952 and received his law degree from Harvard in 1955. He then practiced law in Manhattan for several years until moving his practice to Briarcliff Manor.
Shapiro is survived by his wife, Sandra; his daughter Sarah Barnard; son, James Shapiro; three grandchildren, Ashoka Barnard, Kevin Shapiro, Allison Shapiro; a sister, Jane Cohn, and two nephews Theodore and William Cohn.
Services were held at Dale Cemetery in Ossining.
