Mary Theresa McCarthy, 82, ESL Teacher In Ossining

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Mary Theresa McCarthy of Croton-on-Hudson, formerly of New York City, died Sunday, Sept. 28. She was 82.

McCarthy was born July 16, 1932, in New York City to Daniel J. and Bridie (Moran) McCarthy. She had a long career as a computer program writer for IBM in New York City. In her retirement years, she taught English as a Second Language in Ossining and CCD classes at St. Christopher's Church in Buchanan. She was a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church, Ossining.

McCarthy is survived by her nieces and nephews; and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Daniel A. McCarthy and David J. McCarthy.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at St. Augustine's Church in Ossining. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Verplanck.
