Mary J. Murphy, 81, Former Ossining Resident

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Mary J. Murphy, a recent resident of Bethel Springvale Inn and former resident of Ossining, died Sunday, Feb. 7. She was 81.

Born in Troy, Murphy was a retired Spanish teacher at Hendrick Hudson High school. She also taught at Mary Rogers College. In 1992, she was one of the founders of the Maryknoll Affiliates. With the Rev. John Hudert, she co-founded the Pachamma Farm at Maryknoll.

Murphy is survived by her sister, Eileen DiVito; a niece, Eileen Varrone; a nephew, Paul DiVito; and great-niece and great-nephew, Brianna and Carmine Varrone.

She was predeceased by her parents, Christopher Murphy and Mary (Moran) Murphy; and a brother Christopher Jr.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place, Ossining. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at St. Augustine’s Church, with interment at St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
