Joseph W. Carter, 89, Of Ossining, Retired N.Y. Telephone Employee

OSSINING, N.Y. - Joseph W. Carter, a lifelong Ossining resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 15. He was 89.

Carter was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Ossining, to Joseph J. and Ella (Hockins) Carter. He was a graduate of Ossining High School class of 1942 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by the N.Y. Telephone, where he advanced to supervising engineer. While employed by N,Y. Telephone he attended Westchester Community College and received his AAS in 1960.

After retiring from N.Y. Telephone in 1982 he became active in The American Legion Post #506 and served as the post commander for 12 years.

Carter is survived by his sons, Jay (Julie) and Brad; and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are Sunday, Oct. 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Dorsey Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20 at St Paul's on the Hill 40 Ganung Drive, Ossining, NY 914-941-6627. Interment at Dale Cemetery.
