Joseph Alfred Regotti, Director Of Maryknoll Lay Missioners In Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Joseph Alfred Regotti, a former Ossining resident and director of mission services at Maryknoll Lay Missioner, died on Saturday, Jan 3. He was 55.

Regotti was the fifth of six children born to Alfred and Irene Regotti in Monroeville, Penn.

Regotti was the husband of Jean Walsh, his partner for 25 years. Brought together by their shared passion for faith, justice, and peace they met through Witness for Peace where they served in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the U.S.

Regotti joined Maryknoll Lay Missioners in 1997 with Jean, and raised their daughters, Hannah and Maria, in Oaxaca, Mexico.

He co-founded a hospital in Oaxaca that still serves the region's poorest residents. Joe thrived in that ministry until 2001 when he was diagnosed with cancer and returned to MKLM's home center in Ossining.

Regotti served as director of mission services at Maryknoll Lay Missioners until this year.

He graduated from Notre Dame University in 1982 and spent two years in Chile immediately afterwards working with the marginalized and economically poor, starting what became a lifelong commitment. He graduated with a master's degree in social work from Fordham University in 2011.

He is survived by his wife, daughters and grandson Brandon, and four of his five siblings- Ben, Judy, Alan and Paul.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Irene Regotti, and a brother, Tom.

In lieu of flowers, Regotti's family suggests that donations be made to Maryknoll Lay Missioners, P.O. Box 307, Maryknoll, NY 10545.

Visitation and the funeral mass are at Maryknoll Sisters, 10 Pinesbridge Road, Ossining. Visitation will be in the Rogers Building Chapel from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. The funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Annunciation Chapel in the Main Building at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
