Joe Taxiera, Graphic Artist, Fire Dispatcher, Of Ossining, 69

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Joseph (John) Taxiera of Ossining, a graphic artist and a dispatcher for the Ossining Fire Department, died Friday, Feb. 10. He was 69.

The son of the late Joseph and Ellen (Gramby) Taxiera, he was born in Tarrytown on April 23, 1947.

Taxiera graduated from Ossining High School in 1965 and was also a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

He was a communicant of St. Augustine R.C. Church.

From 1966 to 2013, Taxiera was a member of the Ossining Fire Department, Ossining Hose Company No. 1, serving both as captain and a commissioner.

He was a graphic artist with O’Donnell Productions and a freelance graphic artist for the Port Authority and PATH.

Taxiera is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons John (Megan) and Marc; five grandchildren: David (Krystal) Dunn, Jessica, Tristan, Kiersten and Austin; brothers Frank (Michelina) and Harold (Virginia); and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation took place Sunday, Feb. 12, at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place, Ossining.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 at St. Augustine R.C. Church, 381 N. Highland Ave., Ossining.

Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
