Edward Francis Garrett, Jr., 81, Of Ossining

OSSINING, N.Y. - Edward F. Garrett, Jr. of Ossining died April 1. He was 81.

Garrett was born Aug. 20, 1932, in New York City, to Edward Francis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Garrett.  The family moved to Crotonville in his early years and Ed settled there with his own family. After graduating from Ossining High, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 during the Korean War.  He returned to his job as a butcher at the A&P in Ossining. Following recuperation from repeated back surgeries, he worked at St. Augustine Cemetery as superintendent until retirement in 1997.

Garrett is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Meg (Bob) Beutel, Ed (Vera) and Bob (Trina); eight grandchildren; and sisters, Edith Carey and Helen Peterson. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Jack, Richie and Phil.

Calling hours are Monday, April 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Dorsey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8 at St. Augustine Church, Ossining, burial to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, Ossining.
