Dorothy (Dot) Byington Festa, 95, Longtime Ossining Resident

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Dorothy (Dot) Byington Festa, 95, of Greensboro, N..C and a former longtime resident of Ossining, passed away Sept. 1, 2016. 

She was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Buffalo, the daughter of Ernest and Mabel (Odell) Byington. 

She was a former clerk with the Readers Digest in Chappaqua for 27 years, retiring in 1982. She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Briarcliff Manor, where she was a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer with St. Theresa’s Church Outreach Program. 

Festa also volunteered with the Hudson Valley Blood Services, the Rosary Hill Home, the Ossining Food Pantry and the Bethel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. 

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Hackett of Greensboro N.C.; son, David (Lucille) of Pawlet, Vt.; three grandchildren, Christiana Festa, Elizabeth (Kurt) Ahlstrand and Kyle Hackett; and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Clara Ahlstrand. 

A private funeral Mass was conducted Wednesday at St. Theresa’s Church in Briarcliff Manor. Interment followed at Dale Cemetery in Ossining.
