Donald Kraus, 66, Of Carmel, Vietnam War Veteran

CARMEL, N.Y. - Donald Kraus of Carmel died Sunday, Sept. 21. He was 66.

Kraus was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Brooklyn, to William and Dorothy Shea Kraus. He was in the heating and air conditioning business working for Clean Air in Hawthorne, retiring in 2010. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and The VFW Post #1374 in Carmel. He graduated from Mahopac High School in 1966.

Kraus is survived by his wife, Carol; brothers, William (Maxine), Gerald (Christine); sister, Diane Gordon (Gary); sister-in-law, Joan Russell; brothers-in-law, William and John Boyar; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother-in-law, Kim Russell.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. There will be a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel.
