O'Connell was born April 27, 1926 in Yonkers, daughter of the late Emily Josephine (Lawrence) and Hermann H. Rohlfs. She was a 1944 graduate of Ossining.
O’Connell had been a homemaker and had worked as a secretary at Thomas Cook Travel Agency in New York City. After her marriage, she lived in New Jersey and Massachusetts and retired in 1990 to Maine. She moved to Marietta in 2008.
She had been active in Protestant churches in places she had lived. She made and sold crafts and enjoyed travel with husband and family.
O'Connell is survived by two daughters, Jill Torbett (David) of Marietta and Kerry O’Connell of Port Townsend, Wash.; a brother, Charles Gilbert, of The Villages, Fla., three grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas M. O’Connell, and sister, Emily Rohlfs.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, in the chapel at Brookdale Senior Living, 150 Browns Road, Marietta, with her son in law, the Rev. Dr. David Torbett officiating. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
