Anthony Esperito Sr., 89, Ossining Contractor

OSSINING, N.Y. – Anthony "Tony" John Esperito Sr., a longtime resident of Ossining, died Aug. 17 at Hudson Valley Hospital. He was 89.

A general contractor, Esperito owned a contracting business, DAGA, and was a member of Carpenters Union 11.

He was born June 13, 1923, in Ossining to Leon and Madeline Del Penna Esperito. Educated in Ossining, Esperito graduated from Ossining High School in 1941 and attended training school in carpentry.

Esperito served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45, attaining the rank of signalman first class. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge, all in Ossining. On Dec. 16, 1945, he married Gilda Margaret Cretara at St. Ann's Church in Ossining.

He was one of the founding members of the Westchester Bridge Golf Sporting Club. Esperito erected the nativity creche in Ossining each year. He is remembered by family for his hard work and dedication to his family, friends and community.

Esperito is survived by his wife, Gilda; three children, Donna Lee Esperito, Anthony Esperito and Maureen (Chris) De Paoli; two sisters-in-law, Eva (Pat) Zimbalatti and Mildred Cretara; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Morris, Orlando, Victor and Leo Esperito; and two sisters, Mae Rudenstine and Susan Trathen.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery. Funeral director John G. Crawford is handling the arrangements.
