Prehal was one of the many who were up in the morning, when temperatures were around 3 degrees, with a wind chill below 0.

"I don't like the cold," Prehal said in Cortlandt. "I didn't mind it when I was younger but now it's harder to deal with. I wanted to sleep in."

Cathy Montaldo felt the bitter cold when she went outside Thursday morning. Montaldo, a Peekskill resident, said she was not a big fan of the cold.

"I like the changing of the seasons, but I don't like it this  dramatic," Montaldo said.

Montaldo said she plans on sitting in front of her fireplace to stay warm.

Bob Rosenthal, who has a business in Ossining, said as New Yorkers, we should be used to to the cold weather.

"I've grown up with it my whole life," Rosenthal said. "It's cold in the winter. That's how it is."

Rosenthal said he planned to stay inside and wear heavy clothes if he goes outside.

Sandra Smith, a Peekskill resident, was going to New York City and said standing outside waiting for the train was a "terrifying thought."

"I'm going to make a beeline for the waiting area," Smith, who is going to Florida on Sunday, said.

Sue Foote, a Mahopac resident, said she loves the cold weather.

"It's invigorating," Foote said.  "I love the cold, this is heaven for me. I'm looking forward to a nice cup of hot chocolate."

Lisa Rodriguez, a Putnam Valley resident, said she was counting down the days to summer.

"This weather is not my favorite," Rodriguez said. "I'm going to keep drinking tea."
