SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The Child Care Council of Westchester has announced the 2014 recipients of its Champions for Children Awards.

Honorees will be recognized at the annual awards breakfast on Friday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown.

Since 2003, the Child Care Council presents the awards to individuals and organizations who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to bright futures for children by creating or funding life-changing programs and initiatives. The Council will also present Joey Awards to professional care providers and community leaders who make outstanding contributions to child care and quality of life for children and working parents.

Safian will be honored for his support of Phelps’ child care center, The Robin’s Nest, which provides vital services for hospital staff as well as working parents in the community.

TD Bank is being recognized as a champion for its support of a large number of nonprofits that improve the lives of children, youth and families throughout Westchester County.

Spano is being honored for his work to raise expectations and outcomes for children in Yonkers, most notably through the Strive Cradle to Career Partnership.

“Our students are the next generation of leaders in our city,” said Spano. “Providing for a quality education system that offers every opportunity for our students to succeed is critical to supporting their future, and just as critical to supporting the future of Yonkers.'
