Intel awarded Ossining High School its Star Innovator Award, a national honor given to the one high school deemed to have the top science and math program in the country. The school received $20,000 from the Intel Foundation and “other prizes including curriculum materials, professional development resources, hardware and software,” according to a news release.
Intel named Ossining High School a finalist in April after beating out more than 28,000 high schools around the country and becoming one of 18 finalists.
The buzz around the award rippled out into the Ossining community as the town and village honored the school district with a parade in October.
Ossining Town Supervisor Susanne Donnelly praised the school district and the community for coming together to celebrate the award.
“If the New York Yankees won the World Series, there would be a ticker tape parade in Manhattan. If a local Little League team won the state championship, there would be a local parade, so it is only fitting that academics should be celebrated in the same way,” Donnelly said in a press release in October. “We have much to celebrate.”
Village Mayor William Hanauer noted it as one of the biggest examples of greatness in Ossining in recent memory.
“That is what Ossining is all about,” Hanauer said in October during a Village Board of Trustees work session. “Please join us. Show your pride in this wonderful achievement of our students, the faculty, the administration of our schools and our very supportive village.”
