The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks is asking the public's help in its investigation of a “Felony Lane Gang” identity theft ring.

A female suspect in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee (shown in photos above) cashed a forged check at a bank branch in Fishkill.

Anyone who may be able to identify the suspect is asked to contact Investigator Kent Smith at the Wappinger barracks at 845-677-7300.

Suspects have stolen victim’s purses and wallets from vehicles in order to obtain credit cards, check books, and identification, police said.

Some of the vehicles were broken into, and some vehicles were left unlocked for short periods of time while the victims went into a business or dropped their children off at daycare, according to police.

The suspects then made fraudulent purchases or cashed forged checks against the victims’ accounts.

Victims have been identified in numerous jurisdictions across the country.

Members of the public are reminded by police to lock their doors and not to leave valuables unsecured in their vehicles.
