The 46-year-old man died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, said John Nelson, director of public and community affairs for the hospital.

"Our sympathies go out to his family," Nelson said.

The unidentified man was the second person to die from the strike that hit five people on Friday, Aug. 12, during a thunderstorm. A 50-year-old man died one day after being struck.

The lightning strike, which occurred just before 4:30 p.m., hit a tree, sending electric currents through benches and the ground in the immediate area.

Those injured by the strike were between the ages of 46 to 55 years old and in a group sitting or standing together near a park bench on the north side of the park.

The other victims have been released from the hospital.
