- Newcomer Lisa Murray took in the most votes as she and incumbent Bill Kress earned the two open seats on the Ossining School Board Tuesday night. Murray took in 1,496 votes, Kress garnered 1,424 and newcomer Carlos Desmaras received 470 votes, Ossining school officials said Tuesday night. Murray is set to join Kress on the school board. Trustee Cindy Winter did not seek re-election. Voters also approved the proposed $110 million 2013-14 district budget with 1,430 votes in favor and 670 votes against, school officials said.
- A flood advisory was issued Thursday in Westchester County as thunderstorms moved through the region and caused flooding to Ossining and Briarcliff Manor. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Westchester County Thursday afternoon. Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds of more than 60 mph. The storm was located near Bedford, N.Y., and moving northeast.
- The Briarcliff Manor School District’s proposed $47.4 million budget failed to get enough votes for a supermajority Tuesday. While the proposed 2013-14 school budget received 805 “Yes” votes and 763 “No” votes, the budget failed because it fell short of the supermajority of 60 percent needed for approval. The Board of Education unanimously passed the proposed $47.4 million budget at its April 23 regular meeting but several residents and parents mentioned concerns with the budget as it compares to districts around Westchester County.
