Report: Ossining Teacher Pleads Guilty To Rape Charge

OSSINING, N.Y. -- The 31-year-old Port Chester man who teaches math at Ossining High School pleaded guilty to third-degree rape of a student Tuesday, The Journal News reported.

John M. Azabache was supposed to get married to White Plains resident Amanda Rae DeLuccia in July but the wedding day was called off after news of the arrest and charges, The Journal News previously reported. On Tuesday, Azabache pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court to the felony rape charge, according to the report. Azabache's sentencing has been set for Dec. 10, according to the report.

Azabache was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl twice between March 1 and July 1, according to the report. No force was involved but the girl could not legally consent because she is under 17, according to The Journal News report.

In a letter to the district, Ossining Superintendent Raymond Sanchez previously said Azabache had administratively reassigned and barred from school grounds while the legal process goes forward.

"We are extremely disturbed by these allegations, as i am sure all of you are, and we are cooperating with law enforcement officials in their investigation of the matter," Sanchez wrote in the letter.

Sanchez reportedly said Wednesday that Azabache is no longer on the payroll and his resignation is anticipated “very, very soon,” according to The Journal News report.
