Police: Ossining Girl Hit by Car

OSSINING, N.Y. – A 16-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing South Highland Avenue this morning,  Village of Ossining Police said.

Elided Zhinzhingo, of Ossining, was attempting to cross the street around 7:45 a.m. near Broad Avenue when she was struck by a 2007 Dodge Caliber driven by 37-year-old Mildred Lynette Hazel, who was heading north, police said. Police Spokesman Michael McElroy said Elided was transported by the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

“Ms. Zhinzhingo was conscious and had bruising to the right side of her face,” according to the police report.

Hazel, from Winston-Salem, N.C., told police she was “driving northbound on South Highland Avenue when the girl ran across the road from the west side of the roadway,” according to the report.

McElroy said he did not believe any arrests were made or citations issued. He added there was no indication of alcohol or speed being a factor.
