Ossining's Top 10 Photos For 2011

OSSINING, N.Y. – Weather and children were common themes for our top 10 photos of 2011.

The Metro North train tracks that flooded so much it looked like a river topped our list. Then we have a photo of a woman dressed in a winter coat using the Internet from outside the Ossining library after she lost power in her home during the October snow storm.

Third on our list is a photo of beautiful four-year-olds holding up bunches of lettuce freshly harvested from the Ossining Organic Community Garden. Fourth on the list is a photo of tenth-grade Ossining High School cheerleaders and their classmates at a Homecoming pep rally. You can almost hear the noise and feel, the energy through the photo.

Fifth is a photo of a Brookside School teacher handing out ribbons to students so they can mark areas in the woods that they would like to restore with native plants. Sixth is a photo of two sixth grade boys at Congregation Sons of Israel engrossed in a discussion about forgiveness during Yom Kippur. Seventh is an adorable photo of three-year-olds making round challah bread for Rosh Hashanah.

Next we have a photo of fourth graders at Claremont School peeling strips of bark off of branches to be used like string in tying up a wigwam that they built. Then we have a photo of a boat being lifted out of the Hudson River in order to try to keep it safe during Hurricane Irene.

To wrap up the gallery, we have photo of a common them during 2011: a tree that has fallen on top of electricity wires along Spring Valley Road causing nearby Teatown Lake Reservation to be without power for several days.
