Ossining Tree Lighting, Santa Visit Set For Tuesday

OSSINING, N.Y. – Christmas is still a few weeks away, but Ossining residents expect Santa Claus to make a special visit Tuesday night once he sees the tree light up over Market Square.

The Ossining Recreation and Parks Department will welcome Santa and the holiday season with a tree lighting, hot cider, doughnuts and carols starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Main and Spring streets. The annual event is set to feature carols from the Old Mill Singers and an escort for Santa from the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department.

“I think for a lot of people, it’s a great kick-off for the holiday season,” said Henry Atterbury, recreation and parks superintendent. “We get a lot of great groups to come out for it. It gets a lot of support from so many different groups and residents in the community.”

Doughnuts and cider will be served at about 5:30 p.m., with carols starting shortly after and the tree lighting at 6:15 p.m., Atterbury said.

Santa is expected to make another visit to Ossining on Dec. 15 for the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center’s annual Breakfast With Santa. Residents are asked to get tickets in advance to reserve space for the 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. seatings. Children will also get a small gift and be able to turn in their wish lists to the elves of the North Pole. Because space is limited, no one will be admitted without a ticket.
