Croton Shop Rite manager Luis Liriano said the weekend was the most packed he's ever seen it — even worse than last year's Hurricane Irene.
"We have no water. We're running low on soup, produce, canned goods. We're running low on everything," he said.
With Ossining right along the river, those living in low-ground areas could experience flooding from the 2 to 4 inches of rain the hurricane is expected to bring to Westchester County. Possible wind gusts up to 75 mph also have many worried about losing their power.
With lines of shoppers winding around the store all weekend, emergency essentials like canned food, batteries, flashlights and bottled water were scant by Sunday.
Matthew George of Yorktown was among those shopping for groceries on Sunday because "we always lose power in any kind of storm," he said.
Jim Sullivan of Croton said he is lucky enough to have a generator, but he also picked up plenty of firewood for his home.
"Our street loses power all the time," Sullivan said. "During the snowstorm last Halloween, we were out of power for a week."
Ossining residents are encouraged to call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED to report electric problems or roadway obstructions during the next few days.
