The Village of Ossining unanimously approved the sale of 147-155 Main St. to The Stagg Group, based in Purchase at a special board meeting July 9. The sale was completed July 11. The Main Street properties, called “We Can Do It” have remained vacant since an April 1995 fire damaged three mixed-use buildings, which included several apartments, retail spaces and Kipp’s Pharmacy, a historic drugstore. Ten families were left homeless by the blaze.

The property has been used as a parking area since the blaze. The Stagg Group, which purchased the property through Amanda’s Lane LLC, will construct a mixed-use building with retail, a restaurant and 31 apartments. Their application was approved by the Planning Board, Architectural Review Board and the Historic Preservation Commission.

“This property has been off the tax rolls since 1995,” Mayor William Hanauer said. “Now it will be back on the tax rolls. It will complete the historic Main Street shopping crescent and represents yet another forward step.”

Trustee John Codman said the village is in the midst of a renaissance.

“This is a great first step,” Codman said. “I’m looking forward to Ossining’s future.”

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Aug. 5.
