To honor its bicentennial, the village presented a six-month juried exhibition of large outdoor sculptures in the downtown and waterfront area.

The sculptures are set to be removed on Oct. 26, but the village is looking to raise enough money to keep one of its most popular sculptures, "Let's Roll."

“Let’s Roll,” a sculpture of stainless steel, plate, shaft and gear by James Havens, located at the triangle at Church St. and Main St.

"It had overwhelming appeal to residents, merchants and visitors, all who wished this installation was permanent, "Assistant Village Manager Christina Papes said.

The village has set up a crowd-funding page at razoo.com with the goal of raising $9,500 for the sculpture. So far they have raised $3,000 with about three wees to go. Residents can donate money via razoo or by bringing money to village hall.

Papes said the village simply doesn't have the money in the budget to spend on the sculpture.

"We've had a really good response so far," Papes said. "Crowdfunding is a great way to raise money."

Papes said they chose Razoo over sites like Kickstarter because Razoo has experience with non-profits.

James Havens, the artist, said he intends for his sculptures to contain enough information so the viewer is not confused or mystified by his artwork.

"I wish to be considered a good journeyman ironworker who demonstrates a high degree of craftsmanship while using only the best materials to create enduring sculptures that speak to the highest aspirations of the human spirit," Havens said.

Havens, who lives in Indianapolois, is originally from the Hudson Valley.

Papes said they have received donations ranging from $10 to $500.

"We hope this will continue and word of mouth will spread," Papes said. "We think it's terrific. We have a lot of people who really like the artwork."

Residents have told Papes they enjoy walking around the downtown and seeing all sculptures.

"It's added so much," Papes said. "It gives people a reason to be outside and enjoy the architecture. People want more of this, it's something we haven't done before."
