OSSINING, N.Y. – Village and Town of Ossining officials said Friday that they were ready to handle whatever snow storm Nemo threw their way.
Village of Ossining Department of Public Works crews were out early prepping the roads in anticipation of the foot or more of snow predicted by the National Weather Service. Michael G. O'Connor, town of Ossining Highway Superintendent, said his team is prepared for the worst over the weekend.
"Luckily, at this time of year all of our maintenance has been done, so we shouldn't have problems clearing the roads," O'Connor said Friday morning, adding that crews salted the roads before 10 a.m. "I expect that today we will go out twice more and begin plowing this evening."
Parks and Recreation employees have been brought in to assist the Highway Department, and 12 plows will be available this evening, O'Connor said.
Village of Ossining Mayor William Hanauer said the unpredictability of the storm made preparation more difficult.
"It's still questionable as to how much and when. We know it's coming, but until the storm makes up its mind, we're playing it by ear," Hanauer said. "Everyone is on standby today and through the weekend, so we're fully prepared for whatever we get."
